Privacy policy
The short version
- You sign in with Apple, Google or an email code. We keep your email, your username and the sign-in provider's id for your account.
- Your goals, hours, notes and anything you attach are backed up to your account, stored in London, and used only to back up and restore it.
- Anonymous usage data, not linked to you, helps us see which features get used. Turn it off in Settings › Privacy.
- No ads. We don't sell your data or track you across other apps or websites.
- Delete your account in Settings › Account and its server data and media are deleted with it.
Who we are
Improver is made by an independent developer, called "we" in this policy. We are responsible for the data described here. Questions go to privacy@improver.app.
Your account
Improver needs an account so your hours can be backed up and brought back on a new phone. You sign in with Apple, with Google, or with a six-digit code sent to your email. There is no password. When you set up your account we store:
- Your email address. From the sign-in, or one you type. If you use Sign in with Apple and hide your email, we only see Apple's private relay address, and that works fine.
- Your username. The one you pick during setup.
- Your sign-in provider and its account id. For example "Apple" and the identifier Apple gives us for you. This is how we know it's you next time.
- Basic account records. When the account was created, when you last signed in, and when your phone last backed up.
We use these only to run your account: to sign you in, to tie your backup to you, and to reply if you write to us. We don't send marketing email.
Your backed-up content
Your iPhone is the source of truth. The app works offline and backs up one way, from the phone to your account, whenever there's a connection. What is backed up:
- Goals: name, emoji, the reason you wrote, hours or days, deadline, schedule, reminder times and companion.
- Sessions: the day, start time and duration of time you logged, and the notes you wrote on them.
- Day marks (days you marked done or skipped) and pauses.
- Photos, videos and voice notes you attach to a session.
- Messages your companions wrote to you in the app.
- A random device id the app creates, so changes from different phones can be told apart.
We use this content only to back up your account and restore it when you sign in on a new or reset phone. We don't read it, analyse it, train anything on it, or use it for advertising.
It is stored with Supabase, our database and file storage provider, in its London region (United Kingdom). Each account can only read its own rows and files. Data travels over encrypted connections and is encrypted at rest by the provider.
Anonymous usage data
With Share anonymous usage on (Settings › Privacy, on by default), the app sends short, anonymous events to TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service hosted in the European Union. Examples: a screen was opened, a goal was created, a session was logged in the "30 to 59 minutes" bucket, the kind of companion chosen.
- Events never include your goal names, notes, media, email, username, exact times or exact durations.
- The only identifier is a salted, one-way hash. TelemetryDeck hashes it again and doesn't store IP addresses, so the data can't be tied back to you. In Apple's labels this is "Usage data, not linked to you".
- Turn the switch off and nothing more is sent.
What stays on your iPhone
- Reminders. All notifications are scheduled on the phone. No server sends them.
- Widgets and the Live Activity read the app's data on the phone.
- Settings such as sound, haptics and the analytics switch.
- Sharing. A progress image goes only where you send it from the share sheet.
If you back up your iPhone to iCloud or a computer, the app's data is included like any other app's, under Apple's privacy policy.
Permissions
Each is optional and used only for the feature named. Saying no leaves the rest of the app working.
- Notifications: goal reminders and the evening check-in.
- Camera and microphone: only when you take a photo or video of a session or record a voice note.
- Photos: the system picker, which gives the app only the items you choose.
Improver doesn't access your location, contacts, calendar, health data or advertising identifier.
Who else handles data
We don't sell or rent personal data, and we don't share it for advertising. These services process data for us, only to provide the features above:
| Service | What for | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Accounts, sign-in codes, the backup database and media storage | London, United Kingdom |
| TelemetryDeck | Anonymous usage data | European Union |
| Apple, Google | Only if you sign in with them: they confirm who you are | Under their own policies |
| Cloudflare | Hosting this website | Global network |
We would disclose data to authorities only if the law required it.
Keeping and deleting data
- While you have an account, we keep your account and backup so they can be restored. Something you delete in the app is marked deleted in the backup and no longer restored.
- Delete account (Settings › Account › Delete account) permanently deletes your account, every backed-up row and every attached photo, video and voice note on our servers, then clears the app on that phone. It can't be undone.
- Sign out clears Improver's data from that phone. Your backup stays in your account; sign in again to restore it. Changes that hadn't backed up yet (for example, made offline) are lost, and the app warns you first.
- Deleting the app removes the data on the phone but not your account. Delete the account first if you want both gone.
- No longer have the app? Email privacy@improver.app from the address on your account and ask us to delete it. See how to delete your account.
- Usage data can't be tied to you, so it can't be found or deleted per person. It is kept in aggregate by TelemetryDeck.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the UK or EU GDPR, or California law) you can ask to see, correct, export or delete your personal data, or object to how it's used. You can delete your account in the app at any time. For anything else, email privacy@improver.app. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
We process account and backup data to provide the service you signed up for, and anonymous usage data on the basis of our legitimate interest in improving the app, which you can switch off.
Children
Improver is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them. If you think a child has made an account, email us and we'll delete it.
This website
This site has no cookies, no analytics and no scripts. Cloudflare, which hosts it, processes standard request logs such as IP addresses to deliver and protect the site.
Changes and contact
If Improver starts handling data differently, this page changes first, with a new effective date at the top.
